an Marcos Church was established in 1994 as a church plant to reach the international community in eastern Santiago by Jim and Portia Reimer and Sam and Lois Mateer.  San Marcos is small but it has a big heart and has sent Christians to many parts of the world.   Our desire is to grow larger by attracting the unchurched into a relationship with Christ, by training Christians to serve the Lord thereby sending them out as evangelists to introduce others to the love of Christ.

Rev. Sam Mateer comes to San Marcos with forty years of pastoral experience, twenty-six of those in overseas ministry.   He has served churches in Birmingham, Alabama; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Quito, Ecuador, and now Santiago. Sam has degrees from Northwestern University and Fuller, Princeton, and Westminster Seminaries.   He is married to the former Lois Peyton and has four grown children; three married with four grandchildren.   As the founding pastor of this church, Sam brings a strong pulpit ministry and deep interest in people to San Marcos.   It is the dream of a place where the dislocated, the hurting, the discouraged, the depressed, the frustrated and confused can find love, acceptance, guidance and encouragement.

  It is the dream of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with the thousands of Chileans, expatriates and other English speaking people in Santiago and throughout Chile.

  It is the dream of 300 members growing together in spiritual maturity through Bible studies, seminars, retreats and fellowship - loving, laughing, and learning together, understanding God's wonderful plan and living life to its greatest potential.

  It is the dream of sending out our members by the hundreds on short term mission projects to every continent.  It is the dream of starting at least one new daughter church a year.
